And the Nomination Goes to Pinetop Perkins and Friends

Written by Suzanne on February 8, 2009 – 2:44 pm -

On my way home from the grocery store the other day I heard some great blues music, and a discussion on NPR about Pinetop Perkins.

Pinetop Perkins is one of the last original Delta Blues musicians.

“Pinetop Perkins is among the few. Perkins, now in his 90s, has been playing blues and boogie piano for more than six decades. In that time, he’s had numerous encounters and collaborations with the aforementioned legends, as well as titans like Robert Nighthawk, Earl Hooker, B.B. King, Willie Dixon and Howlin’ Wolf.” —official Pinetop Perkins website

Pinetop gets another Grammy nod tonight in the category Best Traditional Blues Album for his recent recording, Pinetop Perkins and Friends. He won a 2007 Grammy for Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, a recording of a 2004 concert in which he was the second-youngest participant. To see his tour dates, yes tour dates, and find out more about Pinetop visit his official MySpace page

The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30PM (ET/PT).

Are You Into He’s Just Not That Into You?

Written by Suzanne on February 6, 2009 – 7:44 am -

Are you into He’s Just Not That Into You, the movie starring Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Justin Long, and Ginnifer Goodwin?

I think I might be either too old or too married to get it. It does include Drew Barrymore so I’ll give it a try. I’ve been a Drew fan since her first scream at E.T.   She’s also the producer of this romantic comedy (a.k.a. chick flick), that’s just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Check out this groovy interview Drew did for CBS. I dig The Dating Game style music they put together. Kind of fun don’t you think?

I am” into” Erin McCarley’s song, Love, Save the Empty from the film. To view click here.

So, are you into or not?

Groundhog Day 2009

Written by Suzanne on February 2, 2009 – 8:39 am -

Looks like the little dude says winter will continue. Which is a good thing, because I need to lose a few pounds of vanity weight before I squeeze into my bathing suit.

Who is a fan of Groundhog Day  the movie? Show of hands people or comments would be nice!

I’ve always liked Bill Murray. Not only for his important role in Ghostbusters but because he was a friend of Hunter S. Thompson. It seems that everyone who knew Mr. Thompson is a bit quirky, intelligent and creative just like him. Before Johnny Depp’s role in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Bill Murray starred in Where the Buffalo Roam, a 1980 comedy film based on short stories by Hunter S. Thompson.

I have a connection with the movie Groundhog Day because it was filmed in the little town where I was born, Woodstock, IL. When I was a kid, I thought I was born at Woodstock, meaning Woodstock the festival of peace, love, music, naked mud dancing, and people high on life so to speak.

Looks like Woodstock, IL does a yearly celebration for Groundhog Day. Check out this fun video of Woodstock Willie from 2008, thanks to YouTuber JohnnyBrewster.
