Elvis Sings for Children and Grown Ups Too

Written by Suzanne on August 16, 2009

Elvis had me all shook up since the first time I put on my mom’s 33 of Blue Hawaii. I used to Rock a Hula all over my bedroom.

I’d lip sync and hip shake my way through every Elvis album my mom owned.

I was thrilled when she bought me my very own Elvis album, Elvis Sings for Children and Grown-ups Too.

Elvis Sings...

I played that record over and over. I cried while he sang about his dog Old Shep and I danced with my stuffed animals to Cotton Candy Land & Wooden Heart.

One day I came home from school and my mom was dusting the furniture in my bedroom with a very solemn look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she said, “Elvis is dead.”

I found my favorite album and played Old Shep over and over. I wasn’t in a Rock a Hula mood that day. What about you? What’s your favorite Elvis album?

I watched 3 Elvis movies today on the Turner Classic Movie station. The plot was always the same. Elvis being rejected by the girl and then finally wins her affection over. I watched them not for the acting but just to stare at his handsome face and listen to the music. I never knew he made 31 movies so I evidently missed many. I’ll have to keep an eye out on TCM to see which ones I missed.

I forgot to say it’s hard for me to pick a favorite album. His singing ranged from childrens songs to rock and roll, to love songs, to gospel music. In the Ghetto really touches the heart.

So sad. Me and my family were HUGE fans. I even had my own Elvis records. I remember the day I found out clear as a bell. I was about 8 years old. I was at my grandma’s house sitting at the kitchen table when my uncle came walking in and said, “Elvis Presley died.”. My grandma didn’t believe it at first.

His albums were all good. The older ones were the best. The movies used to be good too.
