Psyched

Written by Suzanne on January 10, 2012 – 11:42 am -

When the USA Network series Psych debuted years ago, my mom was intrigued. I took a look at the commercials and wasn’t impressed. I’m still unsure why that was, but I didn’t view an episode until a couple weeks ago. A friend commented on Facebook saying I’d probably really like the show, so I decided to finally tune in. I was psyched to find out that Netflix offers instant play of the first 5 seasons.

After viewing the pilot, I knew I was hooked. Here I am dealing with PCS (Pop Culture Syndrome) and so are the lead characters in Pysch, Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster. “fake psychic. real detectives.”

Pop culture references abound throughout every episode usually with an emphasis on the 1980’s.

Take a look at the official Psych website, watch Psych Outs (bloopers), take some fun quizzes all about the 80’s, and watch some Season 6 episodes.

I’m not usually into crime stories, but the comedy and great characters of Psych keeps me interested. Do you watch Psych? Are you a newbie like me, or have you been a die-hard fan from the beginning?

For the die-hard fans out there, have you seen James Roday & Maggie Lawson in this fun Kevin Pollack interview? Isn’t it cute that Roday & Lawson are a couple in “real life”?

Stay tuned to the USA Network for all new episodes of Pysch starting February 2012.

Like Valley Girl

Written by Suzanne on July 27, 2011 – 8:22 am -

So I like did a search on my site using the totally tubular words VALLEY GIRL and like OH me gawd I didn’t get anything?
That’s like so uncool, right? Fer sher! Totally!

I had to like put something up like so this minute because like oh me gawd! That was like so much an awesomely huge part of like my existence you know? Oh ME gawd!
There was a time when I tried like so hard to like talk with as many like “likes” as I could, right? You remember don’t you? Really? Are you fer sher?

Well it was this totally bitchin’ time in the 80’s and there was like all this awesome music. Totally rad colors like fluorescent ya know? Pinks, greens, yellows. There was like lightning bolt earrings and shades that look like those window thingys, you know shades like the ones you wear on your face. Fer sher!

Like OH me gawd, just like the raddest time could be spent like at the mall. You remember don’t you? Really?

OK, ok so like here’s some videos I like found on the internet which would have been so totally awesome back in say 1984. OH me gawd, like all we had then was like MTV and like arcades and like the Atari like 64. Oh and like 3 Way Calling which was like so cool. OK, ok! So here’s the videos:

I wasn’t from the Valley I was like from Chula Vista. Like oh me gawd it’s like still in California so that’s like why I thought it was so cool to be part of that scene. Ya know?

A contest? Like nobody told me about a contest?

So some of the comments on this next video like please, gag me with a spoon! But this video from Solid Gold is hot like Nicolas Cage! Totally!

Were you ever like a Valley Girl or did you want to say, “Oh me gawd bag your face!” every time one talked near you?

Baby, Come Back

Written by Suzanne on February 27, 2010 – 6:57 pm -

I fear I’ve lost a bit of that lovin’ feeling lately when it comes to posting. So I’m yelling at my PCS (Pop Culture Syndrome), “Baby, Come Back!”

Maybe a trip down retro TV lane will bring back the passion. Let’s see if an episode of ALF will help.

5 Eighty’s Comebacks

Written by Suzanne on September 12, 2008 – 8:44 am -

Photobucket

The funny thing about the 80′s is people laugh at the big hair photos, dis the big belts, lace gloves, or Molly Ringwald dancing, but many ideas and styles from the 80′s keep creeping back each year. I first noticed some 80′s influences a few years ago and then they disappeared again. Recently these trends are popping back into current pop culture.

Here are 5 Eighty’s Comebacks, like em or not:

1. Venetian Blinds style sunglasses.

Photobucket

Remember these? Well they are back and once again we can have limited vision while trying to look cool at the same time. These were totally rad back in the day. You can order some via  shuttershadesonline.com/main.html

2. Leg Warmers

You can find leg warmers in all different colors and prints at any department store. I doubt I’ll sport them now but there was something fun about wearing legwarmers over my skinny jeans. I felt like I could break into a Flashdance move whenever I felt inclined. Maybe I’ll try them again these days and moonwalk down the store aisles. If I feel so inclined that is.

How cute is this? Now they have baby legwarmers:  babylegs.com/

3. Neon

Bright orange, lime green, fluorescent pink, a blast of yellow! Yep all those colors are back on the shelves coloring everything from big hoop earrings, big belts, and torso shirts with leggings. Luckily, with the fall season upon us many stores are turning down the lights on these bright frocks and opting for duller hues.

Check out these Back to the Future, Jetson style Neon accessories: neontrim.com/clothes.html

4. Ghostbusters

The Ghostbusters movie premiered in 1984. It spawned cartoons, video games and even a Ghostbusters 2. According to Sci Fi Wire, Ghostbusters 3 is in the works. Looks like some of the original Ghostbusters like Dan Akroyd, and Bill Murray will be involved. The big question for director Ivan Reitman will be, “Who you gonna call?” Maybe Ray Parker Jr or should they get these Latvian guys?

5. Mr. T and the A-Team

I pity the fool who believes this one.  According to Wikipedia, a movie is planned for July 2009, based on the A-Team. I wonder what Mr. T has to say about that? Here he is talking all things 80′s fashion:
