There’s one YouTube channel I visit the most. It’s the Official Soul Train channel on YouTube. If I’m feeling funky I search for some Funk and Get Down with Don Cornelius and the Soul Train dancers in my living room.

I was groovin’ and movin’ with the line dancers the first time I saw the show. I must have been about 5 years old. A blond haired, blue eyed kiddo who knew she liked Soul Train way better than American Bandstand.

My dad loved The Temptations, The O’Jays, and anything R&B. He showed me my first dance moves and I caught on right away. So if you’re ever feeling a little bit funky, take the Love Train to the Soul Train station. You’ll feel groovy in no time.

Do you have a favorite Soul Train memory?

A month or so ago, I heard Bobby and The Blackouts play live. Mr. Bob really blew everyone away with his swinging saxophone. Dancers were jitterbugging, and lindy-hopping to every tune. The minute they started be-boppin the party was in full swing.

In the middle of their gig, Mr. Bob Crail jumped off the stage, and strolled atop the bar, blasting his sax. He even gave my sister-in-law a saxophone serenade.

With their addictive high energy performance, I can see why they’re named, Bobby and The Blackouts. Dancers were kicking up their heels, looking like they weren’t going to stop until they blacked out. Seeing these guys play, made me think about calling the Arthur Murray Dance Studio for some jitterbug lessons.

Keep a look out for their new album, out in December, called Honktime. Visit their MySpace page for details about upcoming events, and find out why Mr. Bob says, “…the SAX is the original lead instrument of Rock n’ Roll.”

Bobby and The Blackouts Roll Call:
“MR BOB” Crail…Tenor and Bari Sax, Vocals
Dino Guerrero…Drums
Christopher Louis Garcia…Upright & Electric Bass
Jason James…Musical Director, Guitar, Vocals
