Read Across America

It’s March 2! The day we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Oh everyone knows Dr. Seuss. Some have even heard of Theodor Geisel.

In honor of Dr. Seuss, this day has been proclaimed, Read Across America day. Visit this link for more info. http://www.readacrossamerica.org

What’s your favorite Seuss book? I think mine has to be The Sneetches. Here’s a little clip from the animated version.

Of course I do love Horton Hears a Who. Look at this fun short film with a villain twist based on the classic Seuss book, Horton Hatches the Egg. Yes, reading Seuss stories can inspire the imagination and lead to video making fun.

Green Eggs & Ham is always a tasty read. Breakfast, ehh not so appetizing to me. We can even learn a new language while listening to this story.

“Teach yourself Jamaican patois/patwa with children stories. Listen and watch the video of “Dr Seuss Green Eggs and Ham ” read in Jamaican patois/patwa.”

One of my other favorites by Seuss is under the name Theodor Geisel. Seuss’s “real name” was Theodor Seuss Geisel. Let’s listen as Sara age 2 reads The Eye Book to YouTube viewers.

What book will you read today?

Dr. Seuss

Theodore Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904. Like so many children in the world, I grew up reading and reciting rhymes by Dr. Seuss. I wanted The Cat in the Hat to knock on my door on a bored and rainy day. I loved naming things Woozles, and Floozles or giant Shaznoozles. His writing inspired me to think out of the box, to contemplate eating Green eggs & Ham in a box, and of course to remember that no matter how small, a person’s a person with a voice after all.

I still love reading Dr. Seuss books, and watching Horton Hears a Who, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I have to say I’m a Seuss purist and don’t find remakes enjoyable.

My favorite Seuss story is probably The Sneetches.
