Propr Attire
Written by Suzanne on March 10, 2009 – 12:07 pm -Even though I’m a housewife that doesn’t mean I’ve thrown in the dish towel when it comes to fashion. When I’m not wearing my apron I’m out in about with family, friends, and if I’m lucky a night out on the town. This means I need a wardrobe that can take me from looking good casual to desirable dressed up. I came across a new clothing line called Propr started by David Arquette, Ben Harper, and David Bedwell. I love the versatility of the fashions so I wanted to find out more about Propr. Here’s my interview with David Arquette:
HIH: Tell us how Propr started?
David: Propr was started because Ben Harper, David Bedwell, and myself (David Arquette) all of whom share a love for clothing and a desire to be part of a company that made clothes that people will LOVE as well. We each have our own individual style but there are things that cross over between all of us… That’s what we focus on – clothing that people can make their own and feel comfortable in.
HIH: I dig the logo for Propr. Why three owls?
David: The three Propr owls of our logo represent the vision we share on fashion. Owls are such mysterious and brilliant creatures, they have a history steeped in mythology, and they can see what others can’t. Hopefully those are traits that will define us as a company as well.
HIH: I saw some pics from a recent show, Courteney Cox Arquette was wearing Propr and I thought to myself, “Hey I could wear that to my kiddo’s next play date.” Are you going for a more accessible look for the general public?
David: The look and feel of our clothing is geared toward an individuals’ style and people feeling comfortable in our clothing. We use a lot of organic cotton but we never let it compromise our esthetic, it’s our goal is to produce accessible and wearable garments – that a mother can wear to a play date or dinner and feel confident and stylish. We also make the highest quality garments at affordable prices so that wearing Propr fits with your budget and way of life.

HIH: What do your wives think about this new venture? Do they give you any ideas or feedback for the collections?
David: Our wives have a tremendous say in the clothing we produce. We went through their closets to see what they loved and what they didn’t. We ask them to model our clothes and participate in our fittings as well as listening to them if they have suggestions on what they want in a brand.
HIH: How do you manage your different styles together? Do the three of you have similar fashion ideas?
David: All three of us like blending contemporary clothing with vintage pieces – so when you see our line you’ll notice a focus on detail the way clothing used to be made.
HIH: Both you and Ben have worn some very unique and wild styles to some red carpet events. Will any of those red carpet looks be revisited in the Propr line?
David: For the most part the clothing we produce is accessible to all and not as out there as some of the clothing Ben and I have worn on the red carpet… Although if we are incredibly successful watch out for a couture line that will put the dressed in black crowd to shame.
HIH: What’s the inspiration behind the designs?
David: We take our inspiration from Icons of fashion, Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn, The Beatles, Steve McQueen and vintage styles we find that speak to us.
HIH: Will there be any his and her shirts or sweaters happening?
David: There are some fabrics that cross over to both the men’s and women’s line but they’re not made to be worn together per say, but if that is what you’re into that is just what we want – people making our clothes their own.
HIH: When and where can we start shopping?
David: Propr will be in stores and on the internet starting March 19th 2009. At select Bloomingdales, Kitson, Fred Segal Trends (Santa Monica), Dress (San Francisco), and Satine (On 3rd in Los Angeles). Also check out proprclothing.com and thanks for supporting a new American clothing line born of LOVE.

5 Eighty’s Comebacks
Written by Suzanne on September 12, 2008 – 8:44 am -The funny thing about the 80′s is people laugh at the big hair photos, dis the big belts, lace gloves, or Molly Ringwald dancing, but many ideas and styles from the 80′s keep creeping back each year. I first noticed some 80′s influences a few years ago and then they disappeared again. Recently these trends are popping back into current pop culture.
Here are 5 Eighty’s Comebacks, like em or not:
1. Venetian Blinds style sunglasses.
Remember these? Well they are back and once again we can have limited vision while trying to look cool at the same time. These were totally rad back in the day. You can order some via shuttershadesonline.com/main.html
2. Leg Warmers
You can find leg warmers in all different colors and prints at any department store. I doubt I’ll sport them now but there was something fun about wearing legwarmers over my skinny jeans. I felt like I could break into a Flashdance move whenever I felt inclined. Maybe I’ll try them again these days and moonwalk down the store aisles. If I feel so inclined that is.
How cute is this? Now they have baby legwarmers: babylegs.com/
3. Neon
Bright orange, lime green, fluorescent pink, a blast of yellow! Yep all those colors are back on the shelves coloring everything from big hoop earrings, big belts, and torso shirts with leggings. Luckily, with the fall season upon us many stores are turning down the lights on these bright frocks and opting for duller hues.

4. Ghostbusters
The Ghostbusters movie premiered in 1984. It spawned cartoons, video games and even a Ghostbusters 2. According to Sci Fi Wire, Ghostbusters 3 is in the works. Looks like some of the original Ghostbusters like Dan Akroyd, and Bill Murray will be involved. The big question for director Ivan Reitman will be, “Who you gonna call?” Maybe Ray Parker Jr or should they get these Latvian guys?
5. Mr. T and the A-Team
I pity the fool who believes this one. According to Wikipedia, a movie is planned for July 2009, based on the A-Team. I wonder what Mr. T has to say about that? Here he is talking all things 80′s fashion:

Bluetooth Revolution
Written by Suzanne on July 1, 2008 – 3:00 am -July1st, 2008, is a life altering day for California drivers that love to chat on their cell phones. If you’re 18 or over you can use a hands free device but you can’t put your iphone to your ear while you’re behind the wheel. If you’re under 18 you need to pull over and run into Starbucks or a 7 Eleven to chat on your cell because you can’t even use your Bluetooth on the road.
Thanks to rhettandlink.com for this foretelling cyborg song about the future of Bluetooth technology.
Click here to view an informative video from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. It’s not as entertaining as the cyborg song, well I guess that all depends on your own personal sense of humor.
I can only imagine the amount of violations that officers will be handing out in Hollywood, but I can’t imagine Paris, Britney or any of the paparazzi’s most wanted without cell phones plastered to their ears. In the next few years “hands free device” fashion could be the next big thing.
I hope this doesn’t put a damper on Qualcomm’s new product, HandSolo, revealed April 1st, of this year:

Hollywood Wardrobe
Written by Suzanne on June 8, 2008 – 8:57 am -I’m not a trendy dresser and I don’t care much for designer labels. I’d rather clean my house in my pajamas instead of looking polished like June Cleaver.
When I’m out doing non-housewife things, my attire tends to be the same day after day and I love it that way. If I’m not wearing my favorite GAP low rise boot-cut stretch jeans, with a layered printed T, then I’m probably not in a good mood. I’ve tried wearing more grown up outfits, like polo shirts, cropped pants, and capris; you know the usual housewife of 2008 costume, but it just brings me down. I have a collection of what I call, my Hollywood T’s, thanks to Hot Topic, and Target. There’s no Rodeo Drive shopping for this housewife.
I need to polish my wardrobe a bit, maybe not like June Cleaver, but more like Eva Longoria Parker. I’ve been thumbing through gossip mags, and searching internet sites for the latest Hollywood fashions. Eonline.com has helpful pics of who I shouldn’t dress like in their Fashion Police photo gallery.
Browsing through the magazine rack you can find a plethora of style knowledge.
From what I’ve learned from my fashion studies there are a few things I could pick up that might help me appear less housewife and more Hollywood.
I could ditch my $15 shades and throw a pair of Chanel sunglasses into my Vallentino oversized studded bag.
I’d be turning heads sporting the Gladiator inspired sandal by Jimmy Choo, not to mention twisting my ankle with the size of their heels.
With the prices of these designer accessories I won’t have a dime for anything else. If I was a celebrity I’m not certain I’d be donning these items with pride. I’d be more like Britney Spears running into Target after her stop at Starbucks. I’d miss my under $25 hand bag I still call my purse, and my black wedges from Famous Footwear. I’d much rather shop online at perpetualkid.com and 80stees.com
Like I’ve said before, the housewife part is true, Hollywood is just a metaphor.
