The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

Written by Suzanne on December 8, 2008

In 2000, The Boondock Saints wasn’t a mainstream movie but it did become a cult hit. Eager fans have been asking director Troy Duffy for a sequel and finally he’s giving the fans what they asked for with The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.

Lots of great actors were involved with the first movie, and most will be returning, Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery and Billy Connolly  to name a few. I was excited to read that one of my favorite actors from The Breakfast Club, Judd Nelson, has added to the cast.

I cooked up some questions for Troy Duffy, and the cast of All Saints Day for the live video cast that will be held on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 at 3pm EST Check it out and see what HIH question they choose.

UPDATE 12/10/2008: Troy Duffy did answer my questions. Listen for questions from housewifeinhollywood.com towards the end of the video conference, near 01:04:38.

For all you Boondock Saints fans out there, check out the cool gear at Hot Topic.

After listening to the interview for around 1 hour and 5 minutes, he finally answered several of your questions. Good questions, HIH!

    Hey S,

The first movie was no where it should have been. Troy has 2 sides and unfortunetly for him a lot of it was captured in the movie “Overnight”… I respect his passion but think you should watch this movie. People can change, but it doesn’t always happen.

    Always,

dieter. you can edit an hour of santa clause and make him look like a dick. wanna bet this movie is bad ass? everything on duffy! im curious what you do “d”? pretty easy to be a couch critic ya know? the facts are a ton of people love the first one, like he said , for some reason people connected with it. . not alot of people gave a shit about overnight a week after they saw it.. like i said , santa clause. .. hater

Cool stuff! Makes me wanna go out and get the first film.
Good question, I actually think that him reading the question and discussing it is a great moment in viral marketing. He is talking about when promotion comes from the fans, it’s not promotion, it’s real advice you can trust :) that’s the power of the web, that is the ultimate goal of viral marketing.
I see this film doing well no matter what, thanks to the fans.

lmao @ m!!! aaaaahahahaha! too true.

the 1st movie was FANTASTIC because it was completely under the radar and unexpected. think about it, when you go to the movies with NO idea or expectations, and the movie surprises you, THAT is what makes it great.

i am eager to see BS II but i do agree to some extent that the guy seems like kind of a dick. would i like to go out and have beers with him? you betcha. birds of a feather…and all that…

  6. Dieter D. Says:

    Dear M,

Let me begin this message by saying that I agree with you that a lot can be done during the editing process…

Have you ever questioned why it has taken BS II so long to get off the ground??? Answer… Because no one in Hollywood wanted to work with Troy after the shit he pulled on the first BS. I know people who have stepped in shit at a dog park that are more excited about life then people who have worked with Troy. Do you wonder where William Dafoe is in the sequel??? Answer anywhere Troy isn’t, Dafoe has enough sense and dignity not to be associated with such an Arrogant prick.

So I guess you want to know my credentials. Well I’ve worked in the Entertainment industry for a majority of my life, whether it was working as a production assistant on features for major studios, or doing art dept. work on commercials and music videos we all needed to start somewhere, and I think there is a lesson to be learned from working on a film crew. That lesson quite simply is you want to be the one calling the shots and not the one getting the producer his chair. So I took a job in the Marketing Dept. of Fox Family Channel. While it was a challenge, we managed to make something of the channel and had the channel’s strongest campaign ever known as the “13 Days of Halloween”. After ABC Family bought Fox Family Channel they still kept the campaign concept and even the Sci Fi Channel adopted a version of it. Not bad for a kid in his 20’s. While I was only at Fox Family Channel for a 1 ½ years I made some strong contacts that I carried with me to my next job which was at the Directors Guild of America – Los Angeles. I was in charge of all Film and Television projects worldwide. I worked directly with every major studio, DGA director, and agent in the world. Ever watch the show “Entourage”??? Well Jeremy Piven’s character Ari Gold is based on Ari Emanuel @ Endeavor who I had on speed dial. I personally worked with Robert Rodriguez and his production company when they left the DGA which was quite a bit of news since only a handful of people including George Lucas had done it and outright challenged the Guild and its policies. (Which quite frankly I completely agree with). The arrangement of credits does not matter as long as they are attached to the finished product. Honestly I worked more closely with the people in the “Industry” then I really care to have. To me it’s a lot of ass kissing and putting on a facade which gets boring after the first month. After 6 faithful years of working at the DGA I decided it was time to leave. I can now draw a nice Pension and am currently writing a novel entitled “Exit Smiling”, a feature entitled “The Hope Chest”, and even a Children’s book. Not bad for a 33 year old.

The next time you decide to call someone out on their credentials ask yourself if you should do it with more tack, because they just might call your bluff and show you that not everyone can’t back up what they say. Oh and by the way BS is one of the most overrated films in the world. If you think that film is so magical, I think you need to see more movies… Let me know as I can get you into the movies with my DGA card during the time of the Oscar nominations….

    Always,
    “D”

P.S. I’d ask you for your credentials but honestly, I could really care less.

  7. Mireille Says:

No one alive is perfect and every single person has things they can improve upon. Yes people can change.

Sometimes people need to go through bad experiences or tough times in order to learn and grow.

Whatever happened ten years ago is over and gone. It seems that the people who made the Overnight documentary have not grown as people, let go of their hate and moved on.

No, I personally do not wonder why William Dafoe is not in All Saints Day. Nor do I care why either.

Yes, Dafoe played an unusual character and played that character very well in the first film.

But Dafoe was not the only good actor in the first movie and he was not the reason I watched Boondock Saints.

Without the talents of Flanery, Connolly and Reedus Boondock Saints would not be the same for me. They are the main reasons I am looking forward to watching All Saints Day.

    Regards,
    MM
